The beetle first clings onto one of the amphibian's rear legs. This caused the amphibian to jump. After 10 minutes the amphibian stops jumping and the beetle moves onto the amphibian's back, biting at the lower back area. The beetle makes a horizontal incision using its mandibles, causing the amphibian to cease moving. During feeding the beetle's abdomen swells noticeably. The beetle can be seen feeding on the amphibian's eyes as well.
